Bronze Assessment Trip 2007
The first 3 teams of pupils completed their assessment in the Southern Cairngorms this weekend. With the challenge of the training behind them they thought they knew what to expect. But this trip was to prove memorable in so many ways...There were many special moments to experience including a tremendous night time sky,
, a sudden hailstorm
, the sighting of an adder and a lizard that had lost its tail
, great campsites
, and interesting features such as the Devils punchbowl
.
However, one group had an experience they are unlikely to forget as their nerves, teamwork, character and skill were tested to the full as they became temporarily "lost". Missing a vital turn they proceeded to use their energy following a route that would eventually have to be reversed. Another group may have panicked but they controlled their emotions, and giving each other encouragement they used their skills developed in training to reverse their tracks and find their way back on course.
When they eventually sighted the staff
there were huge celebrations. On arrival at their campsite the other group greeted them with hot drinks and a warm welcome.
As each group finished the final day they found a treasure trove awaiting them - a crate of coke chilling in the river.....
No, they weren't dreaming, they could celebrate a weekend that will stay in their memories a long time.
