Balmanno House History
Our house, Balmanno, is named after a castle in Perthshire; as are all of the houses in Perth High School.
Balmanno Castle is a sixteenth centuary L-plan tower house which lies in the Ochil Hills. It is situated near a small Perthshire village called Dron and is about a mile south of Bridge of Earn.
The castle was built around 1570 AD for George Auchinleck after he and his family bought the land.
In 1915, a restoration project was started by architect Sir Robert Lorimer for Glasgow ship-owner William Millar, who intended to use Balmanno Castle as a summer residence.
