Cumbrae 2009

What a beautiful day to be sailing - if only there was wind!

This year's sail and surf week got off to a beautiful start on the hottest day of the year so far. We arrived yesterday in glorious sunshine to meet a queue of day trippers who had been visiting the island desperate to get off, thanks to a malfunctioning ferry! We, on the other hand, were desperate to arrive and begin our week's stay. The journey had been pain free but hot, and what else to do on such a beautiful evening but some extreme paddling - don't ask!

This morning we awoke to a perfect clear blue sky, but not a breath of wind, which put paid to our plans somewhat. Smothered in suncream, we decided on a day of kayaking instead. The morning was spent playing games like tig, and bulldogs - slightly more difficult in a canoe than on two feet - then in the afternoon we set off for an adventure. Largs was our destination, and it took very little time for us to cross the channel between the island and the mainland. Once there we cooled down with an ice cream, before setting off back to the island, dodging the ferries as we went.

This evening we visited Millport, enjoyed some more ice cream, sat on Crocodile rock, and now the rest are watching a DVD while I type. 5 miles of kayaking when you're not used to it is a little tiring, so I'll turn in soon. No wind forecast for tomorrow again, so I reckon it'll be plan B again... Power boating? Sunbathing? Ferry chasing? Who knows :)
