BP Portrait Exhibition
The Art Department took S4 pupils to the exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh on the 25th January........
The BP Portrait Award is the most prestigious portrait competition in the world, promoting the very best in contemporary portrait painting.
From a record entry of over 1,900 artists, this year's exhibition presented 56 selected portraits, which included all the shortlisted entries, alongside the work of the BP Travel Award 2008 winner Emmanouil Bitsakis.
From intimate and personal images of friends and family to revealing portraits of celebrity sitters, the exhibition presented a variety of styles and approaches that together illustrate the vitality of contemporary portrait painting.
The pupils had a brilliant day, they all really enjoyed the BP portrait exhibition and the permanent exhibits. The pupils were all amazed by the skill, the humour and many other aspects of the show. Pupils were in awe of the work and hopefully inspired!
