Bronze Assessment - Group 2 (9/6/04)

The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award has been a worthwhile experience all round. Many new skills have been learnt and many new friends have been made. There have been lots of amusing incidents (Gemma, stream, need I say more!) and laughter at the mixture of Mr. Illsley's Lunch and Dinner on our training expedition. He even tried jelly on a tortilla wrap (and enjoyed it).

I felt that our assessment wasn't that much harder than our training expedition, slightly harder walk but the scenery was great. At some points, during the walk at Glenalmond, it felt as though you were in the middle of nowhere. All you had to keep you company was your group, your supervisors and lots and lots of sheep! (And Mr. Hands of course!) Luckily he didn't sing, We're Perth High Till We Die! on the expedition, at least not around the group I was in. One bad thing was the wind, one good thing was all the laughs with the girls in the group. Thankfully I didn't get any blisters on the walk and luckily no tics!

The amount of stuff we had to take with us wasn't too bad to carry, but for some reason my bag seemed slightly heavier on my assessment than on my training expedition, maybe that's because I brought more food with me than last time. One of the favourite things Nicole and I brought with us was raw strawberry jelly it tasted really good! (Mr. Illsley recommended it!) Everyone thought it was horrible but we managed to persuade Ashleigh and Kirsty to try it, and they liked it!

I really enjoyed the expedition and found that it gave me things to challenge myself, for example carrying a heavy weight on your back over a long distance can be quite tiring. But we all made it back safe and sound. I definitely hope to carry on with the Duke of Edinburgh Award because it's a really good opportunity.
