Mathematiques Sans FrontieresBy eramage | Monday 17th Mar 2008 13:12 On Thursday 13th March 21 students from the top maths sets volunteered to represent Perth High in this worldwide competition run jointly by North Lanarkshire Council, Heriot Watt University and L’Academie De Strasbourg.
Part of the paper was written in French, German and Spanish. This had to be translated first, the maths worked out and then the solution had to be written in the foreign language.
The pupils worked on the 10 problems in small groups, when they found a solution they wrote it up and this was checked by some of the others. If they are amongst the top 10 schools they will be invited to the prize giving in June at Heriot Watt University so watch this space! They all worked very well together and were quick to build on the strengths of others in the room if they knew they had a particular skill. The following students are all to be congratulated on their efforts:- Matthew Brown, 4P9 Craig Ritchie, 4p9 Hannah Mitchell, 4K8 Shona Lawson, 4k8 Kirsty MacLellan, 4p9 Murray Sturrock, 4K7 Sam Mcmaster, 4b1 Kinnison Goddard, 4B1 Ewan Taylor, 4B1 Fiona Dale, 4H5 Hannah Holmes, 4H5 Emma Smith, 4B1 Fergus Butt, 4E4 Oscar Mullins, 4E4 Angus Wilson, 4B1 Michael Davies, 4B2 Sundhas Minhas, 4B2 Johanna Broad, 4B2 Hannah Stott, 4B2 Libby Southgate, 4E3 Keiran Stevenson, 4E4 A Larg, 17.3.8 |
