Pedestrian Crossing, Oakbank Road

Councillor Willie Wilson has sent a letter to residents about progress with the pedestrian crossing close to the school. Click to read it.

Dear Resident

Pedestrian Crossing, Oakbank Road

I refer to previous discussions and correspondence on the above matter.

The crossing is currently the subject of studies by both the Road Service of Perth & Kinross Council and Tayside Police. It is acknowledged that the crossing does create problems and the intention is to look at options to try and resolve these.

In the first instance the hedge and tree will be cut back to improve lighting. As you will be aware, white line renewal has already been carried out at the junction. In addition to this the Road Service will look, with the Street Lighting Partnership, at the benefits of extending the Belisha Beacon warning lights on “arms” which will make them more prominent. These, however, are only simple short term measures that can be undertaken quickly.

There is a more fundamental problem and as a first step a number of pedestrian surveys have been carried out at the crossing. Traffic patterns continue to be monitored at and near the junction. This will help inform the variety of options which will be considered for the future. At present a number of options are being considered for the junction and these will be the subject of further discussion and consultation.

Once the pedestrian and traffic figures are available, I will write to you again. Please be assured that this matter is regarded as a serious one by all of the Services involved. We are intent on providing a lasting solution to the problem.

Yours sincerely

Councillor Willie Wilson
