China Day 2013
Perth High School pupils and staff were once again immersed in a day of Chinese culture on Tuesday 19th February.
Activities were designed and ran by staff from departments in Art and Design, Drama, Home Economics, Mandarin, and Physical Education. Thanks must also go to local martial arts instructor John Connelly for delivering the Tai Chi sessions.
The build up to the celebrations began on Friday 8th February with all pupils participating in an assembly led by Perth High School’s mandarin teacher Ms Yang Zheng. This assembly provided pupils with an insight into the meaning of the Chinese New Year and the cultural events that take place to mark this important date in the Chinese calendar.
As part of the day a reception was held for partners of the school including representatives of the Perth Chinese Community. This included a tour of the activities and a visit to the School’s Confucius classroom, one of only a handful across Scotland.
The high levels of enthusiasm and engagement shown by students was commented upon by the visitors as were the manners and conduct of our young people. On hand all day to help staff and students were our ever loyal team of prefects who once again showed themselves to be excellent role models and leaders.
